Moorish Gypsy & Happy Hips

Greetings All! Join Moorish Gypsy and our all children's sister troupe, Happy Hips for a wonderful family show at the Eno Festival 2009. This is a yearly fundraiser hosted by the city of Durham to create awareness and support for the River's preservation.

We will be performing on Sunday, July 5, 2009

River Stage

45 minute show from 4:30-5:15pm

All proceeds benefit the Eno River Foundation. There will be plenty of fun, food, crafts, art, musicians, and dancers. Show your support and come to our show.

"Shimmy for the Cure" fundraiser for the Susan B. Koman race for the cure foundations. We performed at Xios Restaurant in Apex, NC with local bellydance sisters. We helped raise over $800 which was our pledge for the race! There were 25 bellydancers racing through downtown Raleigh the next day!

This was our first mother/daughter class!! We started classes on January 2008 and we were ready to perform our dance by March 1, 2008 at Shimmy South 9. How excited and nervous we were. Everyone did a great job and looking forward to next year......

We performed an Arab-Spanish Gypsy Dance. What a great time we had among friends!! The food and shopping was awesome too. I got a great deal on a couple of cholis for $10 bucks!

My Teacher Maja

My first teacher was Maja, the Girl from the Nile is Boca Raton, Florida. A lovely and graceful dancer indeed.....She host the largest Tribal Fusion Bellydance event in the Southeast every year called "The Spirit of the Tribe." I am always honored to be a part of that event along with my friends in Florida.

The absolute and total inspiration for my DANCE,

is my daughter Nadia.....

When she turned eight years old in 2004, we decided we wanted to do something special. Something that would keep us close together and having fun as she got older. Too often our children grow and end up having their own hobbies and interest, while we parents get involved with ours. Today she is a young pre-teen of 12, and eventhough she does all the things young ladies her age do, DANCE is the one thing we share together that is sacred to our relationship.

I wanted my child to grow up with a positive body image of herself and Bellydance was the key. This is one of the few art forms or dance that embraces ALL women of all ages and walks of life. When you dance, YOU are a Goddess celebrating life, love, fertility and the special gift of being a woman............
